In the Beginning… There is the Earth
Description of project:
The new spa is located on the tip of the Balaruc-Les-Bains peninsula. With a total area of 16,800 m², it comprises two buildings with a maximum of 5 storeys and partial basement and a number of 2 m deep semi-in-ground swimming pools.
Given the very low bearing capacity of the surface soils and some substantial loading, the base solution led to suggesting auger-bored piles to support the structures and dewatering by drainage trenches to allow the earthworks to be carried out. As a variant, the contractor proposed replacing the piles for just the part built over a basement by a grid of rigid inclusions (CMC) associated with a raft.
