Soil studies for ground stability

The geotechnical stability study for a bank or hillside defines:

  • Geotechnical Influence Zone (GIZ)
  • potential slippage surfaces
  • the influence of underground water
  • the risks for third parties
  • Stabilization methods by earthworks, drainage, retention (gravity wall, self-stable wall with tiebacks, nailed retaining wall)
  • the conditions for carrying out the works

Land stability

Hence the geotechnical stability study for a bank or hillside provides the following characteristics:

  • identification of the various formations
  • geometry of the slippage surfaces by inclinometry
  • underground water circulation conditions
  • shear parameters of all the formations concerned
  • specific soil behaviour parameters (liquefaction, structural instability, etc.),
  • parameters associated with the type of structure planned for stabilizing the bank or slope
